The Marc Wasiak Fellowship

The Marc Wasiak Fellowship is awarded with funds generously donated by individual donors to the Marc Wasiak Foundation and LCI Melbourne, Australia’s leading independent Art and Design Institute.

Purpose

The Marc Wasiak Fellowship is awarded each year to an emerging creative who has demonstrated excellence and progressive ideas in their creative field. The Fellowship provides financial support, mentoring support and access to organisations and individuals with specialist knowledge to support the creative to explore, experiment and create. At the completion of the project, the recipient is asked to share their experience and journey in a forum or showcase for others to benefit from the ideas.

Benefits

The recipient will receive:

  • $10,000 fellowship

  • Resource support by LCI Melbourne (including access to studios, library and space to develop ideas)

  • Mentor support from the network of collaborative luminaries who pay tribute to Marc’s endearing and enduring legacy (we open Marc’s little black book offering a network of creative experts who have offered their time to keep Marc’s memory alive).

Eligibility

The Marc Wasiak Fellowship is open to any Australian citizen or permanent resident who has a demonstrated emerging creative practice. There are no age or other specific eligibility requirements. All creatives welcome.

Selection Criteria

Applicants are shortlisted and selected by the advisory committee of the Marc Wasiak Foundation. The foundation members are recognised arts and cultural professionals.

In selecting the fellow, consideration is given to (but not limited by):

  • The creatives capacity to use the opportunity to expand and elevate their practice in new and imaginative ways

  • An understanding of the potential for broader community benefit

  • Speculative and exploratory projects presented in original ways

  • Cross disciplinary projects

  • The relevance and timeliness of the proposed activity

Impact of the Fellowship proposal

The Foundation Committee in assessing the impact that the fellowship period will deliver and may consider:

  • How the project will honour the legacy of Marc Wasiak (is it something Marc would love)

  • How the proposed activity strengthens the recipients creative practice

  • How the proposed activity will be documented, presented or shared publicly

Conditions

Applicants must be available to fulfill the Fellowship for the term of one year.

Fellows must present a public outcome that results from their Fellowship with acknowledgement of the Marc Wasiak Foundation’s support.

  • Any images and text associated with the application may be used in the Fellowship’s own publications and publicity.

  • Visual support material must be provided.

  • It is recommended that you keep a copy of your application for your records.
